No one really appreciated the beauty of the parliament chandelier (Kronleuchter) anymore, it simply hung there as a bad reminder of a previous age. Years ago it had been prized by the general public, back when they had some faith left in the parliament and the politicians who dwelt there. But in recent times this once great country had gone through some big changes, and the parliament chandelier was nothing more than a sign of indulgence and unnecessary riches, a left over artifact from another time.

This chandelier which hung high above the parliament floor seemed to represent the greed and arrogance of the leaders of this once great nation. No one could even admit to liking it anymore, as it would be like admitting that everything was O.K, and it was surely not. The day the plan came into existence was just like any other really, and hardly anyone really thought that damage to a parliament chandelier would make any difference at all.
You see in this particular country at this particular time, so many people were struggling to get even the most basic of provisions, that beauty and chandeliers no longer made much sense to anybody. The country and its people had gotten so poor over the years that they resented anything that even hinted at abundance or richness. In another time and another place this may have led to revolution, to passionate fighting and resistance, but unfortunately here this was not the case. These people were tired, hungry and fed up, and yet what was worse, they had very little energy left to do much about it. That was when this tiny, almost silly plan was made up; a few of them were going to cause some damage to a parliament chandelier (Lüster), they were going to see if they could destroy some of that vain and pointless beauty.
No one can seem to remember who these people were, they were not trying to change the world or even bring down the parliament, they were just going to carry out their plan and see what would happen next. It had not always been like this of course, the opening of the parliament and the unveiling of the chandelier had been a grand affair that was celebrated at the time, seen by many as the start of a new and golden era for the country. However as time went on the country got poorer while the politicians got richer and degenerated into corruption. And slowly but surely the people began to lose faith in their leaders, and lose hope in the parliament and its riches.
The morning that the plan was to take place was like any other, most of the people going about their day and attending to their errands like they always did. One group however had a special job to do, even if they didn’t really have a good and proper reason for doing it. They entered the parliament as all citizens were entitled to do, and walked towards the central floor that lay right below the huge chandelier. It was then that some of them pulled some stones out of their pockets and threw them up at the chandelier with force and fury. And a few seconds later it was done, they had caused damage to a parliament chandelier and could walk away somehow happier that their parliament was now a better reflection of their own lives and those of their countrymen.
